Children are facing a tough environment out on the streets and in schools. The urge to join gangs is greater when children lack proper parental supervision. To help combat this growing threat, PBS39 will host a public Town Hall event targeted to benefit residents of South Bethlehem.
PBS39 will organize in-school assemblies at Broughal Middle School and employ a 3-part model of, “Share, Discuss and Refer,” wherein student participants will receive information about the consequences of gang involvement and violence (Share), have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss various issues brought up during the multimedia and live presentations (Discuss), and then learn more about the local support services available to individuals who have experienced gang violence and/or need help to avoid gang involvement (Refer).
Dedicated services will also be available to caregivers in the Lehigh Valley who may suspect that their child is involved in a gang, and offer a forum for discussion.
These programs, offered in English and Spanish, are designed to make South Bethlehem a safer and happier place for children and the overall community.
